Dr Owen has experience in assessing and treating people with a wide range of psychiatric conditions and has completed training in both the production of medicolegal reports and giving evidence in court, having been providing medicolegal assessments and reports for over ten years. He has experience of preparing reports for both claimants and defendants, as well as joint statements with a current 60:40 split. He has particular experience in personal injury and medical negligence cases.
Dr Owen underwent his undergraduate training in Newcastle upon Tyne graduating in 1995. He has worked both in the UK and abroad and completed postgraduate psychiatric training in the UK, becoming a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2000 and gaining his certificate of completion of training in 2003. He has worked as a consultant psychiatrist in the NHS since 2003. He has a special interest in medical education and is an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer with the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and is the Director of Medical Education with Northumberland Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust. He has published and presented not only in the area of medical education but also within clinical and research fields including sports psychiatry, mood disorders and psychosis.

Dr Owen has rooms for assessment in Newcastle upon Tyne and Durham and can see people in their own home or solicitors’ offices across the North East of England. Appointments can be made for evenings and weekends and are usually available within three weeks, with reports completed two weeks after assessments.
